I know that some of my clients have struggled with the issue of having failed to get a City of Atlanta business license for a year or two, and then fearing “coming clean” and getting a business license because of the penalties, interest and back taxes that would be owed.

Many businesses located in the City of Atlanta that have this problem likely are not aware of an amnesty program that began on May 31, 2013 and runs until June 30, 2013. The amnesty period allows all unregistered businesses operating without an Occupational Tax license to gain tax compliance with a full waiver of penalties, late fees, and interest which includes waiving 10% Failure to Pay, 1.5% Monthly Accrued Interest, and $500 Failure to File per year.

The Business Tax Amnesty covers occupational tax liability for unregistered businesses over the four year statute of limitation period.   The City will resume its Revenue and Tax Compliance program and reinstate the application of penalties, late fees, and interest on July 1, 2013. Unregistered businesses seeking to take advantage of the Business Tax Amnesty program can download the Business Tax Application for Multiple Years at   Businesses can also call the Office of Revenue, Customer Service at 404-330-6270 for additional details about the program or to talk through special circumstances.
